Sprinklers That Will Not Shut Off in Salt Lake City

The timer says the cycle is over, but the sprinklers are still going. Turn the controller off first. If water keeps flowing, you’ll need to stop the irrigation supply if you know how to do that safely. Call us and tell us the water is still running.

Call (385) 226-5764 or text us what you’re seeing.

Is it still spraying or slowly draining?

Watch for a zone that runs past its stop time, steady flow with the controller off, or a low head that keeps seeping rather than draining briefly.

Why a valve can stay open

Debris or a failed part can keep a valve open. A manual control may also have been left open. Sometimes extra start times repeat the program so often that it looks continuous. Brief drainage after a cycle is a different issue from water being continually supplied.

Stop the water safely

Check whether the display still shows an active program. If the controller is off but water keeps coming, use the irrigation shutoff only if you’re familiar with it and can operate it safely. Stay out of a flooded valve box and don’t force an unknown valve.

Get the zone shutting off properly

We check the valve and controller settings to find why the zone won’t close. We’ll explain the repair or replacement it needs, then test shutoff and watch for any remaining seepage.

Three steps to getting it sorted

  1. Call or text with your city and what you’ve noticed. A photo helps if the problem is visible.
  2. Arrange a system check. Talk through the cause, repair options, and pricing before deciding on the work.
  3. Go over the result and ask what to watch for between visits.

Will unplugging the controller stop the water?

It may stop the controller’s electrical command, but a mechanically stuck valve can still let water through. If you know how to use the dedicated irrigation shutoff safely, close it and arrange service.
