Salt Lake Homeowner Sprinkler Questions: Community Q&A

Wondering when to start watering, what a valve repair involves, or where to begin with a hidden leak? Salt Lake homeowners ask those questions in public forums, too. We’ve paraphrased questions from the Reddit discussions linked below and written our own answers. The discussions aren’t customer reviews or endorsements of Sprinkler Master.

When should I start watering in spring?

Start with the yard: is the soil drying out, and do the plants need water? Then check the weather and your provider’s guidance. You may be ready to test the sprinklers before the lawn needs a regular schedule. If you use secondary water, confirm the delivery date with your supplier.

Why can a buried valve repair cost more than a small part?

The part may be small, but reaching it can take work. Finding the fault, digging to the valve, handling older pipes, and putting the area back all affect the job. Ask what the price includes before work starts. An invoice posted online can’t tell us what a different yard will need.

Can a valve problem and a drip problem be checked together?

Tell us about both when you book. First we can check whether water reaches the drip zone, then look at the tubing and emitters. The valve and drip problems may share a cause—or need separate repairs. Ask what the visit includes so we’re planning for the same work.

What if I suspect a broken pipe beneath a patio?

Before lifting pavers or breaking concrete, confirm where the water is coming from. We’ll discuss access and whether repairing or rerouting the line makes sense for its layout. Don’t cut or cap a pipe until you know what it supplies.
